Lance Doing Xterra, First Tri After 20+ Years

Lance back on the triathlon circuit, ok one Xterra race, after 20+ years.

"It seemed like a fun time and the training has been going very well," Armstrong told The Associated Press Thursday. "I'll go out there and have a good time and see how it goes."
He said it has been 23 years since he's done any type of triathlon, and he has no expectations of winning, though he has been training hard the past eight months.
"I have no doubt (Stoltz is a great athlete). I go in with no grand expectations," Armstrong said.
The top XTERRA athletes in the world will compete next week at Snowbasin, including South Africa's Stoltz, five-time national champion Josiah Middaugh and two-time Ironman world champion Tim DeBoom.
Stoltz said the course is a good fit for Armstrong as it involves a lot of climbing but is not very technical on the descents.
Asked whether the run or swim will be harder, Armstrong wasn't sure.
"That's one of the questions I have for myself," he said, noting he has had some issues with plantar fasciitis in his left heel. "We'll have to see how my swim comes back. When I was a kid, it was one of my strengths, but again that was a long time ago."

Craig Alexander crushes the competition for a 70.3 title.

It seems as though Craig is right on track for another Kona trophy. A 1:11 half marathon, flat tire (losing more than 3 min. to the leaders) and finishing aver 3 min. ahead. FAST, can he keep moving at this speed for Kona.

Best Triathlon Car, So Far!

Not sure much needs to be said, the Counrtyman All4 (cooper s) it is AWD, fast and gets great gas millage. Fold the rear seats down and you have more than enough room for your wetsuits, wheels, even an extra set of cloths. Get the installed load bars on-top and off you go.

Very much like a tri bike, except it can corner. Remember how you felt when you drove your first go-cart, imagine that but much, much faster. Not to mention the aftermarket stuff, trade down your SUV, move up from Honda.

Smaller Events Need Better Coverage! Bloggers, Twitters and Facebook Unite..

What does it take for smaller venues to be recognized. Banding together, yes it is nice to do the IM events, it cost you plenty. The smaller events usually in your back yard can be as much fun or more. Going to local event you build friendships, meet training partners and even start a friendly rival. The cost is a fraction of the big events without the hassle. Drive in the morning of the event, compete, hand, go home.

So I am not sure why more local events are not covered by TV or Radio, even streaming. The marketing impact of local events is overlooked, having a booth orjust ground support show community involvement and professionalism that frankly more brands need.

So get on the band wagon, Twitter, Facebook, blog or podcast local events, who know a pro might just show up.

Rev3 Adventure Race

The Rev3 Triathlon series was such a smashing success, build on that and go to the next level. Xterra has been a success as well and it seems every year it gets bigger. It seems as though while triathlons are great, the next level is adventure racing, remember the early 90 with the discovery series.

Are you one of those people who never ask for directions? Do you know where you are going by tracking the constellations? Or are you always turned around and often lose your car in the parking lot? Don’t know north from south? Believe it or not, we have a fun event for you no matter your navigation skills. Whether you want to prove to the world your built-in compass always points north or if you need some “direction,” come out and join the Rev3 Adventure Race Series.

Lance Armstrongs first tri Race of 2011, 38°12′S 176°20′E"

Well it is official 38°12′S 176°20′E" is it, so he says. Lance can drum up attention for any event so this should be good. It might even give him a fighting chance, stinks for all the age groupers in the 40+.
His tweet.
"Four events, two days & one great location - a must do summer event at New Zealand’s best triathlon venue. The annual festival, on Auckland Anniversary weekend, attracts competitors from all around the North Island. In addition to an Aquathon and 2km lake swim, it also incorporates Rotorua’s only sprint triathlon. The swim leg of the triathlon can also be replaced with a kayak as a multisport option. Spread over two days, it allows competitors plenty of time to enjoy the stunning Rotorua lakes area between the races."

TOUGH MUDDER 17 DAYS AWAY

Are you ready, break the norm and try something different, push yourself. Even if you fail at least you would have done one of the toughest challenge this year.

The website says:
"Tough Mudder is not your average lame-ass mud run or spirit-crushing ‘endurance’ road race. It’s Ironman meets Burning Man, and it is coming to a city near you. Our 7-12 mile obstacle courses are designed by British Special Forces to test all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. Forget finish times. Simply completing a Tough Mudder is a badge of honor. All Tough Mudder sponsorship proceeds go to the Wounded Warrior Project.
WARNING: A Tough Mudder is 3-4 times longer and much tougher than a typical mud run such as Warrior Dash. Only those in reasonable physical condition should enter."

From the visuals and information, you can judge it for yourself. If anything just do it, if you can.

Remember you are a Triathlete!

CGI Racing 4 Triathlons and the New Unite Half

Get ready for the Rutgers half marathon. THE FIRST 100 RUNNERS TO SIGN UP GET IN FOR $17.66!!! Yup 17.66, 10 am EST.
The CGI Racing team in the past couple years has nailed Racing Events. They put on spectator friendly events, are not afraid to change it up and notification about events is dead on. Now the triathlon Series is one of the best put on, New Jersey (sprint and olympic), Black Bear (kicks off the season), Northeast and the women's tri Philadelphia. If you have not experienced the event either as a racer or spectator it is very much like the ITU events.
So get ready for 2010, CGI is.

Golden GT Bike, a great concept

Every sport should steal this concept, have a totally tricked out bike and the person who wins the race gets to use it at the next event, professionally set up and components replace. This would be great for the sport of Triathlons, since the bikes get quite expensive. Here is GT Bikes idea in a nut shell.

"Meet the GT Golden Bike. It’s light. It’s fast. It’s got the best frame and components anywhere. Oh, and did we mention it’s completely gold? Starting on April 19th, the Golden Bike will be up for grabs at races around the country. Win the race, win the bike. It’s that easy. But there’s a catch. Winning the Golden Bike means you have to defend it at the next Golden race. Don't worry, we'll cover your race fee, put you up in a hotel and fly you and a friend there. We'll also give you a GT Golden Race jersey and a $250 Sugoi gift certificate. But you’d better win or you’ll surrender the Golden Bike and all its glory to whoever does. With all that said, good luck winning the Golden Bike. You’ll need it."

So imagine a triathlon series like this, first you get a wetsuit or speed suit (golden of course) then a tricked out tri bike followed up with a sweet pair of running shoes and some price money of course. What a following you could get.

Just a thought way to go GT.

There are three series that one can compete in:

Greater Atlantic Multisport Series
Greater Atlantic Club Challenge
and
Escape From School Youth Series
Hey if you are looking for races and you live in the greater Tri State Area, check out Piranha Sports I am sure you will find a race to your liking.

Get out and Race!

First let's thank the sponsors of this event. When I get the official logo I will post that as well. The Sandy Hook Triathlon club or Hookers, puts on a great event. Doing races as many as you can handle can only make you better and able to handle the crazy swim that most dread. This event on Father's Day was great. Temp was not to hot, humid though, the water was nice and the course flat and fast. The local Police was on hand and kept the course clear, I can go on and on.
This was a local event and like many states they are happening every weekend. Whether you do a sprint or long course, the experience is valuable and every race that you do will only make you less nervous and faster.
Cheer and get out and Tri!

Black Bear Triathlon, Sunday June 1st!

Black Bear is upon us and for some this kicks off the their Tri Season. CGI Events has a great little series going for all types of levels, and last year introduced a premier Triathlon event to central NJ, NJ State Triathlon coming up for its second year on July 27th. Back to Black Bear everything is looking good for the Tri, except the water temp being in the high 50 to low 60, Jersey Area Multisport (JAM) went out last weekend to report that it was cold, meat thermometer said 58 degrees. To get a clue of how crazy we all are this weekend;
"Water below 60 degrees is dangerously cold, at 40 you become to numb to help yourself in just a few minutes and may become unconscious in as little as 12 minutes. Any immersion over 6 minutes is considered long. This may not be much of a problem in a shallow stream where you can get out quickly but is a problem in a deep fast river, in rapids or in the middle of a lake. Lake Powell water temperature in March is 52 degrees. An average adult has 50/50 chance of surviving a 50-yard swim in 50-degree water."

So keep moving and get out before 12 minutes :-). If you are not registered and would like to see what happens at a Tri event come by and get a glimpse there is a lot to do and see.
