Specialized Shiv

Specialized is making an amazing bike, yes I want to get sponsored by them,go faster and win more events, that aside, in the end you really can see why this is the premier bike next year to own. Yes Chrissie won on a Cannondale Slice, but look at the differences in the two models, that alone speaks worlds.

Congratulations Craig Alexander World Champion 70.3 and Kona.

IN RECENT YEARS SPECIALIZED HAS SET THE TRI WORLD ON FIRE. NEVER BEFORE HAS ONE TEAM SO UTTERLY DOMINATED THE SPORT, WITH WORLD TITLES IN IRONMAN, OLYMPIC, SPRINT, AND XTERRA DISTANCES.
WE’RE UPPING THE ANTE AGAIN: INTRODUCING OUR ALL-NEW SHIV. THIS STEALTHY SPEED MACHINE IS ABSOLUTELY NOT UCI-LEGAL, BECAUSE IT’S SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR THE NEEDS OF TRIATHLETES: IT’S MORE AERO THAN THE UCI ALLOWS; THE FIT RANGE IS GREATER THAN PREVIOUSLY POSSIBLE; AND OUR PATENTED FUELSELAGE INTEGRATED HYDRATION SYSTEM IS A STRAIGHT-UP GAME CHANGER.
THREE WORDS SEPARATE SHIV FROM THE REST OF THE INDUSTRY: AERO, FUEL, FIT. IT ALL STARTS WITH ITS FACT IS CARBON FRAME. WE STUDIED AIRFLOW IN EACH AREA OF THE FRAME, SPECIFICALLY CROSSWINDS SINCE THAT'S WHAT TRIATHLETES USUALLY EXPERIENCE ON THE ROAD. THEN WE OPTIMIZED TUBING AND FRAME DESIGN FOR EACH SPECIFIC AIRFLOW PATTERN, RATHER THAN RELYING ON UNIFORM AIRFOILS THROUGHOUT. SINCE WE WEREN’T RESTRICTED BY UCI RULES, WE WERE FREE TO USE ULTRA-DEEP AIRFOIL TUBING WITH ASPECT RATIOS OF UP TO 4:1 AND BEYOND-FASTER THAN THE 3:1 UCI STANDARD.
DEEPER TUBING IS ONLY PART OF THE STORY THOUGH. SINCE TRADITIONAL WATER BOTTLE SETUPS ARE A MAJOR DRAG ON AERODYNAMICS, WE ENGINEERED OUR FUELSELAGE™ RESERVOIR TO HIDE NEATLY INSIDE THE MASSIVE DOWN/HEAD TUBES. THE BENEFITS ARE TWOFOLD: IT MEANS MUCH SAFER AND MORE CONVENIENT FUELING WHILE YOU’RE IN THE AERO BARS. PLUS THROUGH EXTENSIVE WIND TUNNEL TESTING, WE’VE PROVEN IT’S THE MOST AERODYNAMIC BIKE WE’VE EVER MADE—AND MORE AERO THAN ANY OTHER BIKE ON THE MARKET WITH A BOTTLE.
WE’VE ALSO BEEN ABLE TO DRAMATICALLY IMPROVE THE FIT OPTIONS FOR A WIDE ARRAY OF RIDERS. THE BIKE IS AVAILABLE IN FIVE FRAME SIZES, AND FEATURES OUR PROPRIETARY SPECIALIZED AERO BARS, CONTROL TOWER FIT SYSTEM, AND FLIPPABLE AIRFOIL SEATPOSTS FOR A HUGE RANGE OF STACK AND REACH ADJUSTMENT.
RATHER THAN MAKING JUST ONE UCI-LEGAL TIME TRIAL BIKE, THAT ALSO HAPPENS TO WORK FOR TRIATHLON—LIKE THE REST OF THE INDUSTRY—WE STEPPED OUTSIDE THE UCI BOX TO CREATE A BIKE EXCLUSIVELY FOR TRIATHLETES. WITHOUT THESE INNOVATION-LIMITING RESTRICTIONS, WE’VE REWRITTEN THE RULEBOOK ON WHAT A TRI BIKE SHOULD BE. THE NEW SHIV IS A TESTAMENT TO OUR UNPARALLELED COMMITMENT TO THE SPORT AND ITS ATHLETES.

Craig Alexander crushes the competition for a 70.3 title.

It seems as though Craig is right on track for another Kona trophy. A 1:11 half marathon, flat tire (losing more than 3 min. to the leaders) and finishing aver 3 min. ahead. FAST, can he keep moving at this speed for Kona.

Chrissie Wellington, Just Plain FAST!

Chrissie Wellington is just plain fast, getting faster, scary to see what she might do in Kona this year, I think she held back when she broke the record a couple years ago.

Seems the story was the same, come out in first after the swim, extend the lead on the Bike and be blazing fast on the run.

The fifth man is a woman
The world sensation was completed by three-times Hawaii-winner Chrissie Wellington, who won for the third time straight at Challenge Roth - and again with a new world record. The best female triathlete in the world was able to once again improve her own record from last year of 8:19:13 hours by one minute and crossed the finish line after exactly 8:18:13 hours. Almost as incredible: Wellington finished fifth overall and can now rightfully claim to belong among the top 5 men. The 34 year-old athlete, who presented herself in excellent shape led the race from start to finish and can currently only beat herself.

After Chrissie Wellingtons finish the 180,000 spectators had to wait for a while for the ladies in the second and third places. With a time of 8:56:23 hours the young German rookie Julia Wagner was able to make her dream come true and cross the finish line in the second spot, followed by Rebekah Keat from Australia with 8:59:22 hours.

Truly a inspiration to all, smiling all the way.

Crowie, Get Well!

Crowie or Craig Alexander is one inspirational athlete, being in his late 30's, starting late to the Triathlon game and being a fantastic runner it is a shame to see he pulled out of the Australian Ironman due to illness, rather be safe then sorry. Can't wait to see him back in the game. Look what Chrissie did after an illness, CRUSHED, so hopefully this is a sign.

"I've been fighting this infection for the past two weeks, and I've completely laid flat. I remained hopeful I would come good, so I wanted to leave it until the last minute before making my decision. When I went to the doctor on the weekend, after his assessment I realized I probably wouldn't be racing. In my head I had made a decision, but in my heart I was hoping for a minor miracle. It hasn't happened and it just wouldn't be smart health-wise to push through an Ironman at any pace. So the reality is, I'll be stuck on the sideline on May 1st." He continued, "In all my years as a full time professional I have been very fortunate, having only previously had two enforced layoffs because of illness."

Triathlon Reality Show, Sign Up Now!

So with the success of these reality shows how many would want to qualify for Kona on one. That seems to be the direction Ironman is going, Michael Pine the new Marking and Public Relations director might take the brand. I am sure this would be a slam dunk, what type A triathlete would not want to compete against another triathlete to get his or her shot at qualifying for KONA.
EverymanTri.com
“Right now triathlon needs more mainstream media exposure to drive its attractiveness and make people say, “I want to do this.” We can do that through storytelling” Pine said “ You watch “The Amazing Race,” and people are drawn to that. If we could do something like that, we could hook more people into the sport. You look at what “The Ultimate Fighter” on Spike did for UFC — it put us on the map”.

Potts Wins Cozumel!

Nice to see Andy Potts Win Conzumel Ironman. One of the few USA triathlets that just seems to keep hammering away, by beating the competitions by over 5 min.

"Potts started the day in the usual fashion of leading the men out of the swim. His time of 45:17 was nearly 90 seconds faster then the next fastest swimmer, Stephen Bayliss of Great Britain. Potts headed out onto the three-loop bike course and held the advantage for most of the ride. Balazs Csoke of Hungary eventually joined him. The pair rode close together for much of the remaining bike ride before being caught by Argentina’s Oscar Galindez and Eduardo Sturla, and the United States’ Michael Lovato. With all of these changes taking place near the end of the bike, the group of Galindez, Sturla, Lovato, Csoke and Potts headed onto the marathon within 30 seconds of each other. Potts proved early on to be the enforcer of a strong marathon pace. He took the lead in the first few miles and never looked back, posting a 2:52:36 marathon to earn the 8:16:14 victory and a new course record. Fellow American Lovato capped a stellar day off with a 2:59:05 marathon to earn second." More..
